JJB Cattle Company is a purebred Hereford operation located in Northeast Iowa, just north of Hwy 20 on Hwy 150N. The operations focus is on raising high quality replacement and show heifers, JJB also keeps back a limited number of bulls to market or retain each year. JJB also has a growing freezer beef business selling beef locally and through Bass Farms.
The operation is owned and operated by Jon and Crystal Blin. Jon began JJB Cattle in 2007. In 2003 Jon’s Grandpa, Jim Blin, and dad, Randy Blin, bought Star Lake Cattle Ranch in Oklahoma. Over the next 9 years Jon had the opportunity to be apart of the Star Lake program. Many Star Lake genetics can still be found in the JJB cow herd. Today Jon still works in his families office assisting with their row crop operation as well as day to day operations at Blin Management Company. Crystal is originally from Alberta, Canada. She made her way south on a livestock judging scholarship to Butler Community College and then Kansas State University. In additional to her work on the farm, Crystal is the Director of Marketing for BioZyme, makers of Sure Champ and VitaFerm mineral.
JJB markets their cattle privately, as well as through the annual Perks Ranch Fall Celebration Sale in Illinois and the Iowa Beef Expo Hereford Select Sale.
Jon and Crystal have a passion for agriculture, working with young people and the Hereford cattle. Be sure to check out the JJB Blog as well as Crystal’s agriculture agvocacy blog, Crystal Cattle.
We invite you to stop out to the farm at anytime. And if you give us enough notice Crystal will probably have a sweet treat waiting for you.
