Last night I moved the cows to the creek pasture to let the front pastures recuperate from wintering the herd this year. Moving the cows isn’t really a big job (just opened two gates) but it is always fun to watch the reaction when turning them out. All of the calves would take off and just do laps on the top side. They have not been couped up at all but you wouldn’t be able to tell! Yesterday I also tied up the yearling heifers for the first time… yes that’s right I am halter breaking yearlings to get ready for the State Fair in August. The big ol’ gals really didn’t do to bad with only one doing the always exciting barrel roll and belly flop. Within about 15 minuets there was slack on one of the halters so I think I will have them broke by the end of this weekend. I also snapped a couple of quick pictures after turning the cows out last night.
