Fall has reached Northeastern Iowa in a big, big way! Today it is a raining mess and I guess I will take it as it gives me more time to get sale features done for the upcoming Star Lake Fall Celebration Female and Ranch Ready Bull sales that will be held in Skiatook, OK on October 16th. This sale is always exciting, the cattle featured this year have us all very excited as well. A few of the sale features are full or maternal siblings to embryo calves that will be born up here in Independence next spring!
The calves have all been weaned and they are looking great! The bull calves are the stoutest yet and the heifer calves have more flash and performance than any calf crop at JJB to date. I am very excited for Joe Rickabaugh to come and take a look. Joe will pick which calves he wants to have sell in the Iowa Beef Expo Sale this coming February. One that I have a feeling he will pick is my two year old herd bull. This guy is sired by Titleist and out of the famous Carla cow. I have leased him out twice on top of having him breed my heifers this year and 5-7 cows last year. One of the best bull calves to roam the runs at JJB Cattle Co. is out of this guy and he is one that should generate a lot of excitement. Crystal took a cell phone video of him the day he got back from his latest assignment and I will post it as soon as she gets it done.
Hereford sales the past few weeks have been through the roof. And it looks like the momentum that the breed has been gaining is starting to make a big difference at the auction block. Now is a great time to be a Hereford breeder and I could not be more excited about the future of this breed. Now is just a time to work hard and try to get a slice of the pie.
Back to work.
